Deck And Porch Restoration For Montgomery Homes

Wood on a Montgomery property is not always a modern deck. Alongside backyard decks there are covered porch floors, tongue-and-groove decking, turned railings, balusters, and painted trim details that came with the house. Aged wood and painted elements are less forgiving than new pressure-treated lumber, and cleaning them at deck-board pressure is how you end up with furred grain and stripped paint.

The tree-lined streets that shade the houses shade the wood too. Instead of the even silver you get on a deck in open sun, shaded boards hold moisture, grow algae in the grain, darken unevenly, and become genuinely slick along the shaded edge. Covered porch floors get a particular version of this, since they stay damp and see almost no direct sun at all.

Cleaning removes the growth and the oxidized surface layer, and a wood brightener afterward neutralizes the cleaner and pulls the natural tone back out. On bare wood that also reopens the grain, which is what lets a stain penetrate rather than peel. Painted surfaces are cleaned rather than stripped.

Why Montgomery Homeowners Restore Wood

  • Pressure Matched To Aged Wood

Older boards and turned railings fur and gouge easily. Cleaning at the right pressure is what separates restored wood from damaged wood.

  • Covers Porches As Well As Decks

Covered porch floors, steps, and railings weather differently from open decks and are often the wood most in need of attention.

  • Clears The Slick Shaded Edge

Algae on shaded decking and porch boards is slippery when wet, and on steps that is a real hazard rather than a cosmetic one.

  • Proper Prep For Refinishing

Brightening reopens the grain so a stain or finish can penetrate, which is the main reason refinishing jobs last or fail.

Our Montgomery Deck Restoration Process

Step 1

Inspect Wood And Painted Detail

We check board condition, railings, balusters, and painted surfaces, and identify anything soft, loose, or too fragile for standard cleaning.

Step 2

Clean At The Right Pressure

The wood is washed at a pressure suited to its age and condition, clearing algae, mildew, grey surface fiber, and failing finish.

Step 3

Brighten And Neutralize

A wood brightener neutralizes the cleaner, restores natural tone, and reopens the grain on bare wood.

Step 4

Rinse, Dry, And Report

Everything is rinsed and left to dry, then we walk it with you and flag boards, rails, or trim that need repair or refinishing.

Deck Restoration FAQs

  • Can you clean a covered porch floor as well as a deck?

Yes, and porch floors often need it more. Covered porches stay damp, get almost no direct sun, and grow algae steadily. Tongue-and-groove porch decking needs a gentler approach than open deck boards.

  • My railings are painted. Will cleaning strip the paint?

Not if the paint is sound. We clean painted railings and balusters rather than stripping them, at a pressure that removes grime without lifting finish. Paint already peeling will continue to fail and is better addressed as a repaint.

  • Will pressure washing damage older deck boards?

It can very easily. Aged wood is softer than new lumber and furs or gouges under too much pressure. We match pressure to the wood, which is why the result comes back even instead of streaked and raised.

  • Do I need to stain it afterward?

Not required, but restored bare wood is unprotected and will begin greying again from the first season. If you want the result to hold, staining and sealing after restoration is what the prep is for.

"Jason did great work on our home's driveway and front walkway. I didn't even notice just how dark some spots had gotten, especially our front steps, until he pressure washed them. I was amazed at the before and after! They look so much better now!"

"Jason did a great job with the pressure washing of my house. He first contacted me about a month ago. (I think I had clicked Angi's List or something similar.) But anyway, when he first called me, I told him I work in taxation and would not have time to think about projects until after tax season was over, and to call me after April 17. And... unlike just about every other service provider - who would call me daily... Jason called me on April 18. And we went back and forth for a few days - mostly me asking questions... until we agreed he would pressure wash the house, patio, and driveway. And then he was available within that week! And stayed a bit longer to be sure everything was done right. Plus... he's the OWNER and started the business himself - not just someone who bought a franchise. (which is important to me - I like to support local business, even more so if it's an entrepreneur and not a franchisee.) And every time I pull into my driveway, I smile"
