Step 1
Identify Surfaces And Condition
Step 1
We check whether it is concrete, brick, or flagstone, and look at mortar joints and surface wear before selecting pressure.
Entry steps are the highest-traffic surface you own and the first thing a guest stands on. They are also where the slick green film builds up first.
Learn More About This ServiceMadeira is a town people walk, and the path from the public sidewalk to your front door gets used accordingly. It also collects everything the canopy drops. Leaf tannin darkens it, moss establishes in the joints and along the edges where a mower cannot reach, and a thin algae film spreads across the shaded stretches. It happens slowly enough that most people stop seeing it, which is why the before and after on a front walk tends to be the one that genuinely surprises homeowners.
Entry steps deserve particular attention and usually get the least. They hold water on the treads, the corner where the tread meets the riser stays damp longest, and that is exactly where the algae film builds first. A slick step at a front door is a real hazard rather than a cosmetic complaint, especially on a property where people are coming and going in the dark half the year.
Garden patios here are typically well enclosed and well shaded, which is lovely to sit in and slow to dry out. The surfaces vary, poured concrete, brick, and flagstone are all common, and each wants its own pressure. Brick and older flagstone in particular will lose face and mortar under a wand used too aggressively, and that damage does not come back. Matching the method to the material is most of what separates a good result from an expensive lesson.
The algae film on entry steps is slippery when wet. Clearing it from the treads and the tread-to-riser corners is a genuine safety improvement.
The walk from the sidewalk to your door is the first thing every guest stands on, and the first thing every passer-by sees up close.
Brick, flagstone, and concrete each tolerate different treatment. Older mortar in particular needs a restrained approach that does not come back.
Moss in walk joints is treated rather than rinsed around, so it does not re-establish within weeks of the visit.

Step 2
Algae and moss are pre-treated so they release properly, and the planting that lines most Madeira walks is pre-wet and protected.
My front walk is brick. Can it be cleaned safely?
Yes, at the right pressure. Brick and the mortar between it will erode under an aggressive wand, so brick walks get cleaned more gently and rely more on the cleaning solution. We check mortar condition before starting and tell you if any of it is already failing.
How much does patio and walkway cleaning cost?
It follows the area and the surface. Estimates are free. Front walks and steps on their own are a small job, and it is very common to combine them with a driveway clean into a single visit, which is cheaper than booking separately.
Why is my patio green?
Shade and retained moisture. Enclosed Madeira garden patios get little direct sun, so an algae film establishes across the surface. It needs a solution to kill it, otherwise a plain rinse just knocks it back and it returns within weeks.
Can you get the moss out of the joints?
Yes, that is treated as part of the job rather than washed past. On a walk with wide or washed-out joints, refilling them afterward is worth discussing, because open joints are what let moss come back fastest.
Will you clean the public sidewalk as well?
We can and usually do when the front walk is being done, because the two meet. Stopping at the property line leaves a visible line between clean and dirty right where everyone is walking.
